Eagles Week 8 Injury Report
Birds Face Key Questions Ahead Of Week Vs. Commanders
PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles (2-5) will look to end their five-game skid Sunday night in Landover, Md., when they face another NFC East foe in the Washington Commanders (1-4-1). Coming off a deflating home loss to the Dallas Cowboys in primetime, they’ll have another opportunity to put their best forward in front of a national audience.
Of course, they’ll likely do so considerably short-handed in key area, namely on the offensive side of the ball. The injuries to watch this week include RB Saquon Barkley and WRs DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks.
Below you’ll find our weekly injury report tracker, which begins with Wednesday’s walkthrough.

The Eagles on Wednesday held a walkthrough, and this report is an estimation. Had they practiced, key offensive standouts Barkley, Smith and Wicks wouldn’t have practiced. With Smith, who has battled through his hamstring injury for months now, perhaps the best course of action would be letting it rest another week. Thursday, the team’s most intense practice of the week, will be a big indicator with how things are trending. The same can be said for Barkley, who in addition to the hamstring picked up a back injury Monday night. While it’s too early to say, Barkley seemed optimistic of his chances of playing when speaking Monday night at his locker.
The notable estimated full participants include Dickerson, Kendall and Goedert, all of whom returned from injury to play in Week 7. This means all three exited Monday’s game healthy. The running game looked noticeably improved with the insertion of Dickerson and Kendall at left guard and center, respectively.

The Eagles were again without the services of a handful of prominent offensive contributors, including RB Saquon Barkley (hamstring/back) and WRs DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). We’ll have more Friday, when the team practices for the final time this week.
Added to the limited participants was S Marcus Epps, who popped up with a jaw/concussion evaluation. Epps began the season as a starter, but hasn’t taken any defensive snaps since returning from a groin injury in Week 6 against the Panthers. The Eagles’ top three edge rushers remain limited, though it’s notable that Smith, working his way back from a concussion, is trending in a positive direction.
The full participants remain unchanged, with the exception of second-year linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. (knee), who was upgraded from limited.

In a (somewhat) surprising twist, Saquon Barkley carries no injury designation going into Week 8. It’s mildly surprising because, well, Barkley had been listed as a DNP on Wednesday and Thursday, but was able to make it back in a limited capacity Friday. That the team elected not to add another running back to the roster also indicated that Barkley was trending toward playing. He’ll team with Jaydon Blue and Elijah Mitchell (he’ll need to be elevated from the practice squad) in comprising the Eagles’ backfield Sunday night in Landover, Md.
With Campbell sidelined this week, look for third-year pro Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to fill in alongside Zack Baun.
No Smith or Wicks means another opportunity for rookie Makai Lemon and second-year pro Darius Cooper to undertake larger roles, while Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore serve as experienced depth. Without the services of WR/PR Britain Covey, the Eagles must find a solution at punt returner, a job that could be assigned to Lemon in the interim. Other potential options on the roster include Moore and Cooper DeJean. The Eagles could also opt to elevate Xavier Gipson from the practice squad.
The lone player listed as questionable is CB Jakorian Bennett, who is still on injured reserve. For Bennett to be eligible to play, he’d have to be activated from injured reserve and bumped to the active roster.
